The 7 steps of highly effective gisteos

Pre-production questionnaire and initial consultation

We start with an initial consultation via phone, Skype or email to better understand your needs. We’ll ask or send you some key questions to help streamline the concept development process. If you’d like to kick-start the process now, just download our pre-production questionnaire now and send it back to us at [email protected] so we can set up a time to discuss.

Discovery and script development

Time to get to work. Once we have the necessary background information, we roll up our sleeves and do some homework, study up on your competitors, get to know your offering better, etc. After the deep dive is complete, we proceed to write the script, which is critical as it serves as the foundation for the entire gisteo. Each script contains both the narration (what the voice over talent will read) as well as a detailed written storyboard describing the action we envision for each scene. We send you the draft for comments, make revisions if necessary and work towards finalizing the script.

Voice over casting and selection

After the script is approved, we proceed to record the voice over. We have our own preferred talent network but we can work with other individuals if necessary too. We send you the voice over track for you to review, make comments etc. Once finalized, we move on to the next stage.

Character design/full-color storyboard

If it’s a cartoon-style gisteo, we’ll proceed to design the character(s) and submit to you for approval. We’ll also develop a full storyboard with all the key frame images and send to you for feedback and adjustments.

Music/sound effects added

Normally, music and sound effects are added at the end of the processs, however, there are exceptions based on the exact type of gisteo that’s being created.

We present sections of the fully animated video for comments during the entire production process. We find that having checkpoints along the way ensures a more efficient overall experience for both us and you.

Final file delivered

Once everything is approved, we send you the final file, normally in .mov or .mp4 format. At this point, you’re ready to share the gisteo with the world!

Why are you so affordable?

Gisteo is a lean operation. We don’t have a secretary or too many admin people or excessive overhead which can lead to bloated prices.  We prefer to keep things streamlined and pass those savings on to our clients.  In addition, we get a ton of repeat business and referrals so we don’t need to inflate prices to offset massive marketing costs.

Why are you so expensive?

Strange but true…but we get this question as often as the above one. Prices fluctuate so wildly in this industry that prospective customers are left scratching their heads. We deliver a high-quality product at a fair price. We firmly believe that Gisteo offers the best value-for-money proposition on the market. If you are looking for a “dirt cheap” solution, that is not us. You may want to check out Fiverr or talk to some folks who speak English as a second or third language…but remember, you get what you pay for.

What’s your pricing policy for revisions?

Our policy is to not have a policy when it comes to revisions. Our end goal is the same as yours: to create a compelling video. If you’re pleased as punch with the end result, we know you’ll speak favorably of us to all your friends and contacts when they ask “who made your video?” We’d much rather have a new Gisteo evangelist out there in the world than to tick you off by “nickeling and diming” you to death over a few extra changes. In addition, projects follow a sequential order, meaning that we don’t embark on the next stage of the process until you’ve given your feedback and approved of a particular element such as a script, voice over, character look etc. This approach help ensure that we have frequent touch-points and no unpleasant surprises.

Are there exceptions to the above?

Well….yes. Every now and then there are a few “special” clients who will cross the line a bit when it comes to requesting excessive revisions. It’s very rare, but it happens. This is especially problematic after a particular stage of a project has been completed and approved and the client decides to change something that was previously green-lighted. In these extreme cases, we may ask for an additional fee to cover an over-abundance of labor-intensive revisions. This is dealt with only on a case-by-case basis when we feel it’s necessary and we always try to be as fair as possible.

Our project is in “stealth mode” and still confidential. Can you sign an NDA?

What’s the meaning of life?

We’re not 100% sure, but when we figure it out, we’ll be sure to create a gisteo about it.

Will I own the rights to the work?

Yes, with an asterisk. These are “for hire” jobs and you will own all rights to the video output produced by Gisteo.  By “output,” we’re referring to the master video file we send you, most often in .mp4 or .mov format. We do not release source files (e.g. native After Effects project files) as this is our own intellectual property. Requests for source files are dealt with on a case-by-case basis and a one-time surcharge for said release applies (normally around $500-$1,000, depending on video length).

In what formats do you deliver the final files?

Most often, we send the final file to you in .mp4 but we can send you the files in almost any format you need- .mov, .flv, .swf, .wmv, .avi etc.

We are a marketing firm but we don’t have the in-house capacity to quickly and affordably produce these types of videos. Could we outsource this work to your company?

Definitely. We work as a supplier to plenty of other marketing or branding firms, ad agencies etc. and we’re open to exploring different types of relationships.

Do you only offer commercial explainer videos and marketing videos?

No, not at all. Gisteos are videos that “get to the gist” and do not always need to have a purely commercial or promotional angle. Gisteos could be used to explain a complex educational concept in an interesting way, show people how something works, describe how a non-profit organization uses its funds, etc. If there’s a need to communicate the gist of something, there’s an opportunity to create a gisteo. One of our fastest-growing uses, in fact, is for internal communication/training at larger organizations that need to share important content with their employees in an easily digestible, more engaging way.

Is the glass half empty or half full?

Half full. Always.
